Imagine a studio beyond the rulebook. One minute you are staring at a ceiling constructed of recycled bicycle rims. You then are contacting walls with textures like burnt paper. This is not your usual monochromatic, pure line space. It’s more loud. wiser. regularly perplexing. Still, constantly studiogascoigne.
Studio Gascoigne does not walk on aesthetics. It leaps across a mosaic floor in cowboy boots and high-fives a chandelier on route. There are no exact design templates here. The place is alive on contradiction. Industrial has delicate. Vintage finds its way into science fiction. Mood boards sometimes make one feel as though they are having a fever dream.
It is not only visual punch that drives it. It is the way the space interacts with mood. One project could be whispering. Still another might yell in neon. Still, behind the veil there is always an emotional impact. Some producers ask you to say, “That looks nice.” This one gives you the impression as though you entered a David Lynch side project.
Design is not handled by the team as a formula. Like crazy cooks, they pour things into the pot, taste, adjust, dump the entire thing out, then start over. Two projects seldom even sit at the same dinner table. You were knee-deep in brutalist concrete one second. You then are drinking espresso beneath a paper bird ceiling.
Of course, anarchy without control is only a mess. What’s remarkable is the degree of control buried under the craziness. Testing lighting angles is like doing arithmetic problems. Like politics at a family reunion, texture combinations are discussed. Palettes of colors generate more discussion than a startup boardroom.
Clients leave away with a full-on experience, not a nice room. A good design gently hits you in the gut a bit. It causes you to stop skimming. This studio excels in just this. Phoning it in is not done here. The doorknobs too feel as though they were selected during a full moon ceremony.
Not sugarcoated here either is feedback. If your idea smells, you should not expect to be pampered. But that integrity sharpens the output. You might arrive with a Pinterest board but leave with something you never would have guessed you would have liked. Something more you than you could have personally created.
Every inch seems lived-in, considered, but little hazardous. Like anything may alter the next time you blink. People go back because of such uncertainty. Not for safe, repeating environments; but rather for ones that breathe, scream, and tell stories you cannot find anywhere else.
Studio Gascoigne aims not to satisfy every person. Thank heavens for that as well.
